Top Is there cell phone service in Roddickton?
Bell Aliant offers cell phone service in the Roddickton area. Currently, Rogers and Telus do not offer service. If Rogers or Telus is your cell phone provider we recommend that you contact the Mayflower Inn ahead of time and request the number for your reserved room or cottage. That way friends, family and co-workers may contact you if necessary. If you need to make long distance phone calls you may do so with a per minute fee or with a pre-purchased calling card.

Top Should I bring my laptop?
All rooms in the Mayflower Inn offer free high-speed wireless Internet, so a laptop could be useful.

Top What type of clothing should I pack?
When travelling to Newfoundland it is always best to wear layers. Temperatures can change quickly as the day progresses, and it is always a good idea to bring rain gear. Don’t be mistaken though, it does get warm in Newfoundland, so don’t forget to bring some lighter clothing. With lots of hiking trails in the area, a comfortable pair of walking shoes may also come in handy.

Top Where is the last gas station before I get to Roddickton?
There is a gas station located on Route 430 about 15 minutes before you take Route 432 to Roddickton. Once in Roddickton, there is an Irving gas station that has a convenience store, liquor store and hair salon next to the Mayflower Inn.

Top Someone in our group has health issues, where is the nearest hospital?
Roddickton is home to its very own clinic, which is only three kilometers from the Mayflower Inn.

Top Can I rent a vehicle upon arrival in Newfoundland?
Yes, but we recommend booking your vehicle as soon as you book your flight and accommodations reservations. There are typically shortages during the tourist season.

Top When is it best to see icebergs in your area of Newfoundland?
May to July is the best time to see icebergs in the Roddickton area. Follow us on twitter or Facebook to watch for updates on when they are in our area. www.icebergfinder.com is also an excellent tool for following icebergs.

Top When is the best time to see whales in Roddickton?
We are located in a prime location for spotting whales and squid hounds as we get capelin on our shores beginning mid June until late August or early September. Once the capelin are gone, we get mackerel on our shores, which keeps the whales around often until late November.

Top Can I fish for cod while in Newfoundland?
Fishing for cod is only permitted during the Food Fishery, the dates of which are determined by the government. During this time, boats are limited to five cod per person, and a maximum of 15 cod per boat. Also, the cod caught during the food fishery cannot be sold for commercial purposes. Mayflower Inn & Adventures can offer you this as part of your tour and stay with us. Depending on the time of year, we offer a fishing package when in season, and our menu always has cod in the summer.
